In this week's E-Letter -
*Wow oh Wow oh Wow - What a
hand !!!
*******************************
Hiya there and how have you been this week?
Well I had a fantastic holiday in sweltering heat and absolutely
NO poker at all - not a hint of a tint ! So I've been Poker-starved
this week and I'll just have to make up for lost time.
*********************************
Wow oh Wow oh Wow - What a hand !!!
*********************************
What a hand I've found for you this week - I saw it last year for
the first time and I've just managed to find a clip of it on YouTube
so you can see it for yourself.
Unfortunately I can't find the clip on its own - it's in a medley
of unbelievable hands with some music going over the top of it -
but it's such an amazing hand - you'll have to 'deal with
it' as Tracey from BB8 says.
It comes from the WSOP 2005 and features Jennifer Harman.
Jennifer is something of a hero of mine - you have to admire her
story - she's had 2 kidney transplants and last year she had twins
but through all that - she's managed to become one of the top female
poker players ever...
It's very early on in the Tournament and Jennifer is dealt QD &
QC.
She raises the pot by 200. I'm assuming the blinds are 50/100.
Action moves to Cory Zeidman who picks up 9D & 8D.
He calls the bet and so does Ray Davis with AS & 6D.
The odds preflop are: Davis 24%, Harman 57% and Zeidman 19%.
The Flop comes down as: 10S, JD and QH.
This gives Jennifer a set of Queens but also gives Cory a straight.
The odds now are: Davis 13%, Harman 36% and Zeidman 51% to win the
pot.
The commentator says: "Wow - that is the prelude to some
fireworks !"
Davis checks and Jennifer bets out 500 chips.
Cory raises it up to 2000 with his straight.
Davis folds and action is back to Jennifer - the odds are now 63%
in Cory's favour.
Jennifer thinks about it and calls the bet.
The Turn is the 10D - this really puts the cat among the pigeons
now.

Jennifer has a Full House, Queens over Tens while Cory has a straight
with a straight-flush draw.
Having said that, Jennifer is holding the QD so Cory can only win
with the 7D.
The odds reflect this giving Jennifer 98% chance of winning
this hand.
Jennifer checks and Cory bets 1000.
Jennifer re-raises to 3000.
Cory shakes his head and tries to figure out what Jennifer has.
He thinks she has AK giving her a higher straight - but he can still
hit a flush to beat this hand...
He thinks about it some more and Jennifer sits there with dark eyes
and chews her gum and prays that he calls the bet or goes all in
- she knows she has him beat big time.
Cory makes the call.
The commentator goes on: "Cory makes the call - we're
going to the River and Jennifer Harman has a HUGE advantage."
The River comes down............. 7D !!!

The commentator goes mad !!: "Oh wow what a card - the
perfect card for Zeidman - the 7 Diamonds gives him the straight
flush !! He checks his cards again, something only an amateur would
do, to make sure he's got it."
Action on Jennifer Harman - poor thing - she makes it 3000 to put
Zeidman all-in...
Zeidman puts on a bit of a show at this point - sitting back with
his hands over his head as if he's wondering what to do...
Then he puts his chips in the pot - they turn the cards over and
Jennifer stands up in disgust.
She mutters: "I KNEW you had that hand - Mama Mia"
Zeidman claps his hands and looks to the table for more applause.
Someone says: "nice hand" But what a bad beat !!
You can view the hand for yourself at:

Post Mortem
*************
Jennifer Harman did absolutely nothing wrong - She had Cory Zeidman
beat on the Turn by a MASSIVE 98% to 2% - All she was concerned
about was getting him to put all his chips in the middle...
As Cory hit the only ONE card in the whole deck that could beat
her - he may have won that hand but you can't go around hoping to
win against those odds - Jennifer will win 98% of the time - she
just got unlucky which is part of the amazing game of Poker -
It will happen - you have to learn to 'deal with it' (Tracey from
BB8 again) but take comfort in knowing that if you get your money
in with the best hand and especially with 98% odds - you WILL
win 98% of the time.
****************************************
Well I hope you have a good week - may the cards be with you and
I'll see you again next Friday.
All the best
