*******************************

Hiya there and how have you been this week??

My week's been ok I guess - Not great - not awful - sort of in betweenish.

I haven't yet managed to qualify for this Sunday's tournament and I'll have one more go and
if I don't qualify - so be it - It'll have to wait until next week !

I have, however, spent alot of time re-designing my website: www.holdorfold.co.uk -
I'm well proud of it although there are still a couple of kinks to sort out - if you have any
comments about it - good or bad - please let me know.

A lesson on how NOT to get personal !

********************************************

I try to tell my daughter to learn from my mistakes - I went through certain experiences in
my life and I try to tell her about them to make her see enough reason not to fall into the
same traps as I did -

Well - if there's a lesson to be learnt about how NOT to get personal at the Poker Table...
let Vanessa Roussou show you the way...

This week's hand is a continuation of last week's hand -

If you remember - Vanessa Roussou was outrageously bluffed by the 'amateur' Kelli Griggs.

Vanessa is a very respected player and she is also a blonde, gorgeous girly who looks amazing
and here is this older, slightly plump mother - who made a complete fool of her on World
Television...

Vanessa has taken it personally and is definitely on the lookout for the right moment to show
her that she is a much better player than Kelli is and she's just waiting for the right opportunity
to take Kelli out of the game.

The blinds are $8000/16000 with a running ante of 2000 so there's $34,000 in the pot.

Anahit is first to act and she folds.

Erica is second to act and she also folds.

Kelli is next to act on the button. She picks up KS 10C and raises it up to 40,000.

Roland de Wolfe is commentating: "Raises with the button - I like that raise."

JJ Liu is next to act in the small blind and she folds.

Vanessa is next to go in the Big Blind.

She picks up KC & 6C
KC  6C

Obviously she's thinking that it's her versus Kelli and this is her opportunity to outplay this
jumped up 'son of an amateur'.

Vicky Coren also commentating: "Lets see whether Roussou wants to use this opportunity
to exorcise those demons from earlier - she would love to win a pot off of Griggs OR make
her pass the better hand."

Roland pipes up: "Yes it is personal between these two. What is Vanessa thinking? Maybe
she's planning a move."

Vanessa plays with her chips for a while and then announces:
"I call"

Vicky continues: "Yes - she wants to OUTPLAY Kelli Griggs and yes you know Vanessa is
definitely the more experienced player..."

Roland: "It's hard to outplay someone like Kelli Griggs - you just have to show them the
better hand."

There is $98,000 in the pot and the odds are 62% in Kellis' favour.

The Flop comes down: 6D 10D 10H
6D  TD  TH

Vicky: "Well look at that - Sixes for Vanessa Roussou but 3X Tens for Kelli !! Really dangerous !!!"

Roland: "What a Flop Vicky!!"

Vanessa is first to act - she doesn't take long to consider her move - she shoves all her
chips into the middle and announces:
"I'm all in!"

Kelli doesn't hesitate: "I call !"

Vicky: "Oh Roussou is going to feel sick - I understand why she's moved in - she's got that
second pair but the quick call from Griggs and this is Vanessa Roussous' WORST nightmare!"

The crowd go mad - everyone stands up - Vanessa gulps as sees Kellis' cards - she nods her
head as she understands the situation.

Vicky continues: "From the beginning there was needle between these two and now Griggs
is going to knock her out."

Roland: "She got bluffed on the first pot and she has never got back on track and here she
is in such a horrible situation."

Vicky: "She's nearly dead - it has to come 6 6 for Roussou to win the pot"

Vanessa laughs and says in her very high pitch voice: "That's the worst flop ever !!"

Vicky: "She just can't bear it can she? you know - I mean the problem is that she called with
that King-Six because it was personal - because she wanted to outplay Griggs - and she ended
up getting herself in trouble."

Vanessa stands up at the table and Kelli also gets up and walks over to the crowd.

Kelli stands in silent contemplation - not watching the table and praying that her cards hold up -

The Turn comes down: 2S
2S

Vicky: "Thats it - Vanessa Roussou is out in 5th !"

The irrelavent river is QS
QS

Vicky: "Ohh very unlucky for Vanessa - a strong and experienced player but she got Griggsed !!"

Kelli walks towards Vanessa mouthing: "I'm sorry -"

They hug and Vanessa then goes and shakes the hands of everyone else and wishes them
good luck.

Vicky: "Walking away while Griggs counts her money."

In her interview Vanessa had this to say:

Interviewer: "Vanessa - you have a really great reputation - were you surprised at the way
Kelli played against you tonight??"

Vanessa: "No - well actually I was a little surprised - but I knew she must have some major
skills to have won the preliminary event that got her here - she played great - she played
really really well - she's got guts - I hope she takes it down - shes got guts !"

It really goes without saying that you absolutely MUST NOT get personal at the poker table.

It affects your judgment and you make decisions based on your emotions about a certain
player rather than basing your decisions on the hard facts of pot odds etc....

Learn from Vanessa - I know it's an easy thing to say - I've got personal at the table before
now - and from now on - I just think that I have to focus on my own game and not let my
feelings for someone get in the way of my decisions.
